Addiction can be defined as psychological and physical reliance on psychoactive elements such as alcohol, drugs, tobacco etc. that cause the brain blood obstruction, once absorbed. Prevention of substance abuse specifically pays attention on children and teens.
The external factors responsible for drug abuse are lack of monitoring, child abuse, contact to drugs and influence of media etc. The internal factors include poor social surroundings, attitude towards drugs, self esteem and others. According to the research conducted in Yale “Disulfiram” reduces the alcohol as well as cocaine abuse. Naltrexone is another drug that stops the affect of heroin, codine and morphine but these drugs should be taken under doctor’s supervision. The various programs that offer support in drug and substance rehabilitation include counseling, residential treatment, local support groups, care centers and rehabilitation centers. The rehab centers provide programs according to age and gender.
